Satisfactory

Start with this guide for initial setup, except for the controller: https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Tutorial:Controller_setup#Manual_setup

Find my controller layout by navigating to community layouts and searching for "Round's Satisfactory Layout". At the time of writing the latest version is v3.

In game setting changes:

  • Gameplay -> General -> Autosave Interval (minutes): 10+ minutes
  • Gameplay -> General -> Server Restart Interval (hours): 00:00
  • Gameplay -> General -> Enable Mouse Smoothing: Checked/Yes
  • Gameplay -> Notifications -> Break Notifications: Unchecked/No
  • Controls -> General -> Mouse Sensitivity: 4.5
  • Controls -> General -> Equipment Swapping Scroll Direction: Left
  • User Interface -> HUD -> HUD Scaling: 1.3

Other settings/controls/system tips:

  • Remember that STEAM + X opens the keyboard overlay, but also effectively disables your mouse. Click the text inputs before opening the keyboard. Alternatively having a mini handheld Bluetooth keyboard can really come in handy.
  • Since we often just sleep the SD instead of exciting the game, the automatic game restart doesn't work well for us. Because of this we disable automatic restart and break notifications. Just remember to save and exit to desktop every few hours manually or the game might start lagging.
  • Make heavy use of the X button when building to cycle between structures within the same family. This means in your hotbar you can save space by binding one from each family (i.e. foundation) and use X to cycle between them (i.e. 1m, 2m, and 4m). Tapping cycles, holding brings up the radial menu and enables the left joystick to work as a mouse.
  • Because of the layer system to work with X's radial menu, the left joystick switches from WASD to mouse when holding X. You can use this for a form of auto run by holding the joystick forward, then pressing and holding X. Even after letting go, you should still be running.
  • Shift (R5) + Left Click quick transfers an item.
  • Holding Ctrl (L5) works with all stacks of an item at once. This works for both quick transfer and dragging.

Game tips:

  • Place everything (other than miners and water pumps) on foundations. You'll thank me later.
  • Hold Ctrl (L5) when placing your first foundation to snap it to the world grid. No matter where you are in the world, that world grid is shared and if you always use it for the first piece and build off that, everything will always line up.
  • Find hard drives before building any kind of mega factory. There are plenty of good alternate recipes, but anything that removes reliance on screws should be your top priority.
  • Prioritize tier 3 belts and coal power early. Getting them is basically the end of the tutorial and the start of the real game.
  • Tap space (A) in any crafting screen to auto craft.
  • You can slide (crouch while sprinting) under belts.
  • Zoop and noodle building modes are your friends. Cycle building modes with R (Y).
